About This Reading
What This Reading Is, And How It Works
The lagna or ascendant is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. It defines the first house and from there the entire houses framework. In Vedic astrology the lagna is the primary frame of the chart — more important than the sun sign for character and life-pattern readings.
What This Reading Tells You
- Your lagna sign and exact degree.
- The lunar mansion and mansion-quarter (nakṣatra and pāda) of the lagna.
- The placement of the lagna’s lord — which house and sign it occupies.
- The classical interpretation of the lagna lord’s placement for life-themes.
Classical Tradition
The lagna is treated in BPHS Ch.4 and across every classical compendium. Varāhamihira’s Bṛhat Jātaka Ch.1 anchors the framework. The placement of the lagna lord is one of the most consulted single facts in any Vedic reading — it tells you where the chart’s "story" gets directed.
How We Compute It
We compute the lagna by deriving the ascendant longitude from the Swiss Ephemeris for your exact birth time + place, then mapping it to the sidereal sign and nakṣatra-pāda. Whole-sign houses then follow from the lagna’s sign.
