What This Reading Is, And How It Works
The Navāṁśa is the ninth-division chart — Vedic astrology’s most-read companion to the birth chart. It divides each 30° sign into nine 3°20′ parts, each mapped to a sign of its own. The result is a “chart inside the chart” read primarily for marriage indications, inner-life themes, and the second half of life.

Classical Tradition
The Navāṁśa is one of sixteen vargas (divisional charts) catalogued in BPHS Ch.6. It carries the most predictive weight after the rāśi chart itself. The vargottama status of a planet — same sign in both charts — is treated across all classical compendia as a primary strength indicator.
How We Compute It
Each sign is split into nine 3°20′ Navāṁśa-segments; the starting sign for each segment depends on whether the original sign is fiery (Ar/Le/Sa), earthy (Ta/Vi/Ca), airy (Ge/Li/Aq), or watery (Ca/Sc/Pi) — counted from Aries, Capricorn, Libra, and Cancer respectively. We compute every planet’s exact Navāṁśa position from its sidereal longitude.
